The StudioWe can undertake any style of tattooing from Japanese to Tribal to Floral. We also have a wide range of text styles to choose from. See our Galleries for examples of our work.We are one of the few studios who will perform Tattooing on the hands, neck and face. We also perform Male and Female Genital Tattoing.We carry out a range of Cosmetic Tatooing such as Cosmetic Eyebrow Tattooing, Scar Coverage and Hair Follical Replication.We carry out all types of Body Piercing including Tongue Piercing, Surface Piercing, Dermal Anchors, dermal punch of the ear lobes and female and male Genital Piercing. I am Irene Fraenkl-Rietti, proprietor of Tattooed Lady Body Art.1972-73: Arts foundation course.1974: Studied traditional weaving and tapestry with Else Marie Jakobsen, one of northern Europe's leading textile artists.1975- 80: Studied Painting and Printmaking at the West Norwegian Academy of Fine Art (Vestlandsakademiet) in Bergen, Norway. At that time Vestlandsakademiet was reckoned the best and most radical Art Academy in Scandinavia. Included in this period was a total of 12 months spent at the internationally recognised Myren Graphic Arts Workshop in South Norway.1985: Moved to England.1987: Had first tattoo.1989: Had first body piercing.1992: Began Tattooing, mostly self-taught.1993: Began Body Piercing. Learned the basics by having all (that is to say, at least one of each of) the piercings my anatomy and gender allow.1994: Opened the first Tattooed Lady Body Art studio in Newton Heath, Manchester.2001: Relocated to the present Studio in Failsworth, Manchester.1991 - 2003: Besides my Studio work I have taken part in several tattoo expos, including at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (England), Wrexham (Wales), the Rossendale Bike Show (Lancashire, England) and Hamburg (Germany) twice, the second time by invitation. I have also taken part in "Skintech" in Manchester. My work has appeared in several magazines, including an article I wrote for the now-defunct "Flesh Canvas". I have also appeared on TV several times, once in a debate on Fetishism and the S/M scene aired on Granada TV's "Upfront" show and more recently on Channel 4's "Treasures" series and again, Granada's "On The Edge" in 2003.

Studio Policy

A tattoo is defined in English law as a PERMANENT mark made in the skin with ink. It is illegal throughout the UK to tattoo a person under the age of eighteen and ANYONE who tattoos someone under 18 is breaking the law. In this Studio the law will be strictly adhered to and customers should not be offended if asked for proof of age. There is no clear regulation in the UK regarding Body Piercing, however the policy of this Studio is as follows:No-one under the proven age of eighteen will receive any form of genital piercing. Eighteen is also our minimum age for nipple piercing. For other piercings, the age at which these will be carried out is a proven sixteen. Anyone under sixteen who requires a piercing must be accompanied and supervised by at least one of their parents or a legal guardian, who must also sign a consent form in the Studio. Any attempt to avoid these age limits could result in a permanent ban from the Studio. You will in any case make life easier for all concerned if you have some ID with you if you think it might be required. No piercing will be carried out unless I am convinced it is the will of the person being pierced. Please note I do not consider it acceptable for anyone under the age of sixteen to be left waiting in reception whilst the "adult" has a tattoo or piercing.Many artists, for whatever reason, will not tattoo "above the collar or below the cuff". I am willing to tattoo on faces, heads and hands providing that I feel certain it is a reasoned choice by the client and subject to them signing an indemnity to the effect that I, my Studio and any staff will not be held responsible for any social or employment-related consequences as a result. Similarly, I am willing to undertake both male and female genital tattooing, which many other studios will not. I also do permanent cosmetic tattooing including scar coverage, eyebrow reshaping and lip liner/reshaping but only after an initial consultation. I do not do "semi-permanent tattooing".For everyone's benefit I ask that mobile phones are either switched off or set to "Silent" and not used during your appointment.Please note the use of drugs or other illegal substances whilst on the premises will result in an immediate and permanent ban from the Studio. This is not a moral judgement about drug usage but simply a policy to protect myself from possible prosecution. Threatening and abusive behaviour will not be tolerated and will result in exclusion from the Studio. Any attempt at theft, however minor, will result in a ban from the Studio and probable prosecution. Anyone under the influence of alcohol will not be tattooed or pierced and will be asked to leave the premises. Apart from more obvious reasons, the consumption of alcohol increases bleeding. If you suffer from any medical condition whatsoever that could affect you during the tattooing/piercing or which you know affects your healing rate, such as Epilepsy, Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis or a heart condition, please inform us. We guarantee full discretion. We will most probably do the tattoo/piercing anyway but we need to know before we begin. If you do not tell us we will refute all responsibility for any adverse consequences to you and we will take legal action against you if we suffer any adverse consequences ourselves.As Proprietor of Tattooed Lady Body Art I am willing to negotiate a discount on my normal prices with serving members of HM Forces, those having or probably deserving of a War Pension, Full Patch members of MC clubs and others who have "paid their dues." However, to all customers I would refer to a sign I first saw in the garage where I have my vehicle serviced: "Prices may rise according to the attitude of the customer."I look forward to seeing you at my Studio.Irene
